Sports and Injury
You could view man as a machine. If you don’t take care of the parts, things start to fail, or maybe seize up. As a young man, I felt invincible, and that any activity could be engaged in without consequence, but that turned out not to be true. At one point, through work exhaustion combined with a basketball injury to my back, I got laid out, big time. Standing upright was not possible; my right thigh went into severe spasms. Sitting on the toilet was not an option; the back just hurt so much. When the thigh spasms came, it felt like being stabbed with an ice pick. Then came the cold sweat and shakes, and you felt like passing out.
I landed up in a nursing home, wearing a diaper!
No longer invincible, but helpless, I was totally dependent on my nurses, I will spare you all the indignities and humiliations suffered.
The facility that housed me catered to older folks, I was in my late forties, these people were seventy to ninety age range. So, was this my future? The prospect scared me , but also inspired me to accelerate my recovery. The Physical Therapist told me that I would not be playing basketball again, but I never believed her. Today, at 50, I am again playing basketball with young men half my age. The knowledge acquired over my life helped me to recover fully. I hope to share such knowledge with everyone who could possibly put it to good use. So, feel free to browse; it is a work in progress. Your comments are welcome.
